This traditional recipe has humble Tuscan origins: in the olden days the beans were cooked with water, sage, garlic and extra virgin olive oil in a traditional glass wine flask, with the wicker removed, which was placed on hot ashes.

Ready to use, simply heat in a small saucepan. Ideal served hot with plenty of freshly-ground black pepper as a side dish to red meat, or as a nourishing main course.
